DVR Storage Calculator for Analog Security Cameras

Use this tool to determine how much hard drive storage space you will need for your analog video surveillance system.

Note: Additional factors may influence a DVR's hard drive storage capacity as well as the number of days the DVR will store information. Most common are HD compression (codec), resolution, and whether the DVR is set for motion detection.

Tips:

  • 30 frames per second is real time. At 3 - 5 frames per second recording you will not miss any activity (remember this is per second)
  • There is no real need to record in real time unless there are regulatory reasons as in case of government facilities or casinos
  • Traditional analog systems record at 1 frame per second
